I love thrift store shopping. As a mother of 3 on one income, it can be a challenge to find nice stylish clothes for my family. I do know what the name brands are, and I do like to wear some of them. I do not like to pay full price, and I don't, EVER!
This list does not just include Nashville, because 3 of my very favorite thrift stores are in Williamson County. As much as I hate how expensive Goodwill is anymore these days, the Goodwill in Franklin, TN and Spring Hill, TN are worth the drive and the prices. Especially if you catch one of their 50% off Saturdays. I usually don't like the weekly specials because most of the items have already been picked over. Also, I usually don't find the best kids clothes, but I lose patience going through the disorganized kids clothing, they are not sized.
At Goodwill, my favorite buys are women's clothing, suits, men's clothing, and SHOES, SHOES, SHOES. I've found Salvatore Ferragamo, Cole Haan, Crocs, Stuart Weitzman, lots of real goodies. I never pay over $8.00 for shoes at a thrift store, but when I walk away with a $400 pair of shoes, "Heck Yeah!"
My all time favorite thrift store in Franklin is Graceworks. Not only is it nice, clean, and well organized, the profits from the store go to families in need in the Williamson County area. The first Saturday of the month Graceworks has a warehouse furniture sale, these have some great used furniture finds, and I've seen some Saturday's when they have so much stuff, they will run the furniture 1/2 off the already great prices. Another non-profit that benefits the community is Our Thrift Store. I've found a lot of great items there, clothing, shoes, kids clothes, housewares, furniture and jewelry. They also have some nice furniture at times.
In Nashville, Southern Thrift is by far my favorite thrift store, they are for profit, but they are huge stores, decently organized for a thrift, and they have a ton of housewares, shoes, books, jewelry, handbags and kids clothing. Actually I have found the best clothes for my kids here, I'm talking darling Ralph Lauren Polo dresses for my 2 y/o for $1.99.
If you have favorite thrift stores in and around Nashville, I welcome your comments here to let others know how to save money in Nashville. Let me know your likes, dislikes, great finds, whatever. I'd love to hear from ya!
